I am Sandra K. Lynne, and I currently hail from Adelphi, Maryland. When I originally introduced myself, I said I was planning on moving back to my hometown of Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania temporarily in the spring. But I am rethinking that at this moment and may stay in the DC area another year. The ultimate goal is still to move to Hawaii within the next year or 2.

I am a total newbie. I bought the Accelerated Program at the end of November, and the Getting Clients Roadmap the first part of December. I just committed myself to attending the October bootcamp in Delray Beach, FL. I started the Accelerated Program December 1st (yes, I am a bit OCD) and was following the recommended 90-day plan. But my 19-year old cat, Juliette, took a sudden turn for the very worse, and I had to put her to sleep. I haven’t looked at it since she fell ill until this post. I’m still grieving. Juliette was a very special kitty for me. We had a very deep special bond. We were each other's closest companions for all of her life. So, this loss has been very hard on me. As of today, January 1st (there's that OCD again), I am starting over with the courses.

I decided to give AWAI a try because I had been looking for a way to make a decent living on my own for about 2 years (this go-round). I understand there’s some overselling on their part. After all, they are copywriters, right! Smile But achieving half of what they promise would be a major improvement for me. Like Jill, I have some financial constraints. I’ve looked under a lot of rocks and other than one other option, copywriting seems to fit the best. Of my two options, copywriting seems to have the shortest learning curve for me and I need this to be successful sooner rather than later.

My background is in professional theatre. I have a BA in Theatre Arts, and spent about 12 years in the WDC professional theatre industry before being burnt out and leaving. I have done everything except act and design. I’ve been a stage manager, assistant director, director, technician, house manager, coordinator of volunteers, box office manager, and business manager. When I left, I began temping and over the years developed strong Executive Assistant skills. My last full-time job was as a program communications specialist for a weather satellite program, where I wrote reports, and high-level communiques. I loved what I did but I lost that job November 2013.

Since loosing that job, I’ve been working on getting my health back. I still have some work to do there. And I’ve been trying to figure out what it is I really want to do with the rest of my life. At the beginning of November, a mentor of mine asked me what is it I would be doing if I could only do one thing, just ONE thing. The answer to that was WRITE. I’ve been a writer all my life, and from what everyone tells me, a pretty good one. I’ve never really devoted any significant time to developing it into a career. When I did explore it, I saw just what AWAI has been saying, writers get paid pennies on the dollar. But I do have to say, when I did attempt the writer’s life, I had the most amazing beginner’s luck. I just didn’t stick with it.

So, with all that, after I read AWAI’s first email, I was intrigued. And it was a long email, which gave me lots to happily chew on. The more I read, the more comfortable it all felt. After all, I’m the one that never throws away a single piece of “junk” mail or catalog until I thoroughly go through it (or until it’s so piled up that I have no other choice but to get rid of it). I love junk mail. If it wasn’t for junk mail, I wouldn’t get any other mail except for bills. I’m the one watching the infomercials all night long. I love to learn about new things and I do enjoy writing that is more non-fictional or technical. That’s not to say, I don’t have dozen or so creative projects sitting in the wings. I have at least that many and adding more all the time.

The thing that I don’t know if I can put into words is how different this possibility feels. I admit I can be distracted by shiny objects. This doesn’t feel like one, though. I’ve never really stumbled across copywriting before. Yes, I’ve heard of it but not to gain an understanding of it. Saying “I’ve been waiting my whole life for this” is exactly what it feels like. So, I am even more intrigued because it doesn’t feel like a shiny new object but somehow a wonderful rediscovery.

No matter how hard I try, the one problem I do have is I can’t seem to focus only on one thing. Some of that is the exhausting complexity of my life, and some of it is I am just curious about everything. I’m going to do my best to focus on no more than 3 things next year - 1) learning copywriting and starting that business, and 2) finishing a speakers academy I am taking, and 3) decluttering my whole entire life!! Oh, and did I mention I am working a 32-hour a week job that I HATE! And, the move I mentioned earlier but that’s under the decluttering. See what I mean!! (And there’s a whole bunch of other things I haven’t even mentioned yet. Shhh!!)

I have my niche narrowed down to 2 - 1) entertainment and media, and 2) travel. Both are passions of mine - along with animals, science, archaeology, science fiction, metaphysics, spirituality and sacred art. Let’s just say I am intrigued by the whole world.

Besides my feline daughter that I just lost, I also have a son. His name is Sebastian. He’s an English Cocker Spaniel. He’s 6 years old.

What I need help with is not doing this in a vacuum. I need a community to engage in, get support from, and give support to. I need accountability partners and I’m happy to be one too. I need to focus beyond my grief right now and restart. I need help with that.

Like others have stated, I too have been struggling for over a year now with getting a website and blog going. I think now that was because I was waiting to discover this. I have at least 8 domain names. Most of them are project-specific though I’ve have not found it easy to build my own site. A friend has offered to help but I have to write the copy first. (There it is again!)

I invite all of you to connect with me on LinkedIn, FaceBook and/or Twitter. LinkedIn is my professional link 99% of the time. FB is usually all about fun - kitties and dogs, Star Wars, Star Trek and that kind of stuff. Twitter is 50/50.
